How the SASSA Payment Order Works

SASSA does not pay all grants on the same day. Instead, the permanent grants are released over three consecutive business days in a set order. When a Payment Date Falls on a Weekend or Holiday
A scheduled date on a non-working day shifts to the nearest business day.

If a SASSA payment date lands on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, the payment is normally moved to the last working day beforethat date. Your money is not delayed — the effective date simply moves earlier so it stays within the business week.

The Social Relief of Distress grant is scheduled separately from the permanent grants.

The SRD R370 grant does not follow the three-day cycle in the table above. Its payment dates are released monthly, usually from around the third or fourth week of the month, and payments are made per approved applicant rather than by grant type. That means two people can receive their SRD money on different days in the same month.

Ways to Collect Your SASSA Grant

Whatever your grant payment date, you can access your money through several channels. A personal bank account is the most convenient and secure, but cash options remain widely available.

Bank account

The fastest and safest method. Your grant is deposited directly into any South African bank account in your own name and you can use it like normal money.

Postbank / SASSA card

The default option if you do not have a personal bank account. Withdraw at ATMs, Postbank branches and participating retailers.

Retail stores

Draw cash free of charge at tills in participating stores such as Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers and USave.

Post Office & pay points

Cash is still available at some Post Office branches and mobile SASSA pay points, mainly in rural areas.
